ITA Airways, currently a SkyTeam member, is offering a free status match to their Volare Frequent Flyer Program. This match can get you up to Club Volare Executive Status, the top tier with ITA Airways.

• Access to airport lounges worldwide, whatever the class of travel, for members in possession of a boarding pass, accompanied by a guest.

• Priority baggage handling on arrival, whatever the class of travel

• Extra baggage allowance

However, after the Lufthansa-ITA Airways deal got a green light from the EU earlier this month, ITA Airways is scheduled to join the Lufthansa Group by Q4 this year. This move would also mean a transition to Star Alliance and Lufthansa’s Miles & More program, as is standard with all other Lufthansa Group Airlines.

When that happens, I would expect Club Volare members to be given a corresponding status in the Miles & More program.

This opens up a nice window of opportunity for qualifying folks.

Unlike other Status Matches that we have seen in recent times, this one is free. You can submit a status match through your Club Volare account.

I used my Etihad Gold status and was matched to Club Volare Premium within a few hours. YMMV.

I already have SkyTeam Elite Plus through my Virgin Gold status, so the SkyTeam status isn't my main interest. However, it would be nice to have the Miles&More Senator status, especially since I have a few flights booked on Swiss and Lufthansa towards the end of this year and early next year. Since the match is free, it's worth a shot.
